Lichen Communities
Data
Raw and summarized Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) lichen
indicator data are available from the FIA Data and Tools page.
Click on the FIADB version 3 text link, and look for LICHEN… files
combined or under each state. Documentation for these files
is available from the same web page – click on ‘Documentation…phase
3.’ Alternatively, on the Data and Tools page click on ‘P3
data’ in the top bar, then click on ‘FIADB version
3 download.’ All files are provided in CSV format directly
or as zipped files. Data include files with individual species
abundance (LICHEN LAB) on plots, as well as plot visit notes
(LICHEN VISIT) and plot level summaries.
The FIA master species
file REF_LICHEN_SPECIES under ‘reference
tables’ can be downloaded from the same page or from
here. This file is needed to decode the species numbers to
names, in the LICHEN LAB files available for download. A log
of lichen taxonomic usage, file REF_LICHEN_SPECIES_NOTES under ‘reference
tables’ can be downloaded from the same page or from
here. This file documents changes in lichen names over time
and should be consulted when using data from multiple years.
Raw
data files in PC-ORD compact data format and off-frame data
(e.g., those not on the FIA grid) may be made available
by special arrangement with the indicator advisor, with permission
from the FIA region.
