U.S. Forest Service, National Woodland Owner Survey

Corporate Module
Picture of Corporate Woodland Owner

Corporations control 18% of the forestland across the U.S. with a large percentage of this land being controlled by a relatively small number of owners. The large (defined as owning 45,000 acres of more forestland) corporate owners are different in terms of behaviors, attitudes, and structures than the owners contacted in the Rural and Urban NWOS and are therefore the focus of a separate NWOS module.

The Corporate NWOS collects information on:

  • Distributions of forestland ownership
  • Ownership objectives
  • Forest use and management questions
  • Forest management, logging, and wildfire suppression workforces
  • Community relations
  • Future goals

The Corporate NWOS was first implemented in 2018. Results are expected to be released in early 2021.
