Forest Resources of the United States
- a General Technical Report in support of the Resources Planning Act Assessment
Every five years, FIA produces The Forest Resources of the United States, a report presenting the information on the status, condition, and trends in the Nation's forests. These reports, mandated by the Agriculture Research, Extension and Education Reform Act of 1998 (Farm Bill), include "an analysis of present and anticipated uses, demand for, and supply of the renewable resources, with consideration of the international resource situation, and an emphasis of pertinent supply, demand and price relationships trends."
The Forest Resources of the United States provides the authoritative data used to estimate some of the analyses included in the Resources Planning Act (RPA) Assessment, a congressionally mandated national report that examines U.S. forest and rangeland conditions and trends on all ownerships, and projects the conditions of renewable resources 50 years into the future. Information about the RPA Assessment, including current and previous decadal assessments, mid-cycle updates, supporting publications, data, and webinar recordings are available on the RPA website.
This interactive tool pulls together multiple dashboards, storymaps, and other previously published content into one integrated solution for viewing the Forest Resources of the United States. Content within the tool describes Area, Volume, Disturbance, Ownership, and Forest Use.
